Dark Run (2015)

The Keiko's people generally respect one another's undisclosed pasts, until Captain Ichabod Drift's blackmail makes secrecy everyone's problem. Brooks builds the pleasure around a smuggling crew trying to carry out a job without surrendering its own judgement. The banter has a working arrangement beneath it, with trust tested by the information the captain has kept back. Start the Keiko series here for grubby ports, criminal work and a crew whose loyalty has limits as well as value.
