Missing American (2020)

Emma Djan joins an Accra detective agency after her police career closes down. A missing American and an internet romance scam give her a case that requires patient attention to how people earn trust, exchange favours and hide exploitation. Quartey makes her new professional footing part of the investigation, rather than treating competence as something she must already possess in every situation. Start here for the Emma Djan series; the fraud has serious human consequences.
