Gnomon (2017)

A trusted inspector reviews a dissident's recorded mind after a fatal interrogation, expecting evidence and finding several apparently incompatible lives. Harkaway makes the means of examination as suspicious as the material it contains. This is a long, nested and demanding investigation, with less of the forward momentum of a conventional whodunit. Its particular pleasure is testing an institution's claim that complete access to information must also mean complete understanding.
