Friendship and comic swagger briefly offer the three young men room to exist beyond the hostility around them. The ending makes the fragility of that room impossible to ignore. Its unresolved violence belongs to the film's repeated pressure of mistrust and escalation, with no comforting suggestion that one sufficiently sensible individual could control the whole situation.
