Drowned hopes (1990)
Book

The money was stolen long ago; the operation here is getting it out of a town now submerged beneath a reservoir. Dortmunder must devise repeated recovery attempts while an impatient former cellmate proposes a solution that would destroy other people’s homes. That changing physical problem earns its place beside more conventional thefts. This later Dortmunder novel is longer and more discursive than The Hot Rock, with a sharp difference between the crew’s practical ethics and their dangerous employer’s.
