To Be Taught, If Fortunate (2019)

Chambers reverses the usual colonising premise: human explorers adapt their bodies to other worlds rather than remake those worlds for themselves. The result gives scientific observation, wonder and responsibility room to coexist. Its focused expedition is especially appealing between larger projects because attention itself becomes an important activity. This is a separate novella, outside the Wayfarers sequence, with an emotional argument about what exploration is for.
