The Closers (2005)

Harry Bosch returns to the LAPD’s Open-Unsolved Unit and revisits the 1988 murder of a mixed-race teenager after a DNA match. Connelly makes the new lead a beginning, not an automatic answer: the older investigation’s assumptions and the family’s years of loss still need examination. Bosch’s return to the force gives this later novel a useful new working situation, although his history within the department remains. Choose it for a procedural that tests old files against people who have kept living.
