The Terror (2007)
Book
Published
The ships of the Franklin expedition are held in Arctic ice while food, fuel and health deteriorate. Simmons adds a predatory supernatural threat to that historical predicament, so read this as an expansive horror novel rather than an account of what actually happened. Its strongest fit here is cumulative: every lost resource makes the remaining options worse. Allow for a long book and graphic suffering.
