Persuasion (1818)
Book
Published
Anne Elliot and Captain Wentworth meet again eight years after she was persuaded to reject him. Austen makes renewed attention visible in restrained conversations and small acts within a watchful social world. The longing carries regret, changed circumstances and the risk of judging an old choice too simply. The quietest physical option here, without explicit sex, but one of the richest in emotional anticipation.
