Ingvar Kamprad
Person
Born
IKEA started in 1943 as a teenager's trading business selling small goods, not as a ready-made furniture empire. Kamprad's father paid the registration fee as a graduation present, and his family supplied support and a base. Furniture entered the range in 1948. His early interest in the gap between factory and shop prices became a lasting commercial problem to solve through sourcing, distribution and eventually flat packs.
