Kind of Blue (1959)

A useful first jazz album because it gives you something simple to listen for: musicians leaving space and answering one another. Follow the repeating bass figure of So What, then notice how each solo changes the atmosphere. Its calm surface rewards attention without asking you to understand the theory first.
