Drive (2005)

A stunt driver earns additional money as a getaway driver, maintaining a narrow professional boundary until a job goes wrong. Sallis builds a short, fractured account in which skill behind the wheel offers much less protection than the driver expects. The Los Angeles atmosphere is spare and tired rather than luxuriantly stylish. The jumps in time reward concentration, and sudden violence interrupts any fantasy of effortless competence. Its compressed character work gives the fatalism weight.
