Gloria's return to her hometown becomes connected to a giant creature appearing in Seoul, making apparently private behaviour have consequences far away. Nacho Vigalondo uses that impossible link to explore alcohol misuse, dependence and coercive control without abandoning the absurd premise. Anne Hathaway's performance keeps the changing tone grounded. Choose it for a small-scale relationship story with a very large physical expression, while expecting ugliness beneath the initial comic surprise.
