The Velvet Underground & Nico (1967)

A delicate Sunday Morning sits beside abrasive drones and unsentimental accounts of city life. That range already feels like a deliberate aesthetic rather than a band searching for a style. Nico's cool voice and the group's rougher textures make the debut distinctive, although its darker subjects and harsher passages can unsettle a first listener.
