Brave New World (1932)

The unsettling move is to make control pleasurable. Huxley's 1932 World State organises reproduction, work and consumption so that many inhabitants see little reason to resist. Its speed and satirical compression still make it a useful partner to Orwell. The argument becomes richer when readers also question the novel's own hierarchies, eugenic assumptions and cultural nostalgia. A world that purchases compliance is worth discussing without treating every modern convenience as proof of prophecy.
