The Adventures of China Iron (2020)
Book
Published
Across the Argentine pampas in 1872, a young woman leaves the position assigned to her in the gaucho epic Martín Fierro and discovers different ways to live. The journey makes room for desire, language and Indigenous alternatives to the nation's official story. A short, exuberant, queer reworking of history with explicit sexuality and imaginative departures from realism. Familiarity with the older poem helps, but is not an entrance requirement.
