At Night All Blood Is Black (2018)
Book
Published
A Senegalese soldier serving France in the First World War tries to explain what happens after his closest companion is fatally wounded. Repetition and shifting memory carry the reader into a mind under intolerable pressure. Short enough for a concentrated reading session, but emotionally severe: mutilation and sexual violence rule out a gentle entry point. It restores a colonial soldier's perspective to a familiar European battlefield.
