Judith Faulkner
Person
Faulkner began Epic with money from friends and family and developed the medical-record software company without venture or private-equity investors. Long hospital relationships and continuing software development supported an unusually patient ownership model. This is a useful distinction for the reader: avoiding institutional VC did not mean starting without help. The initial support and the work of a much larger engineering and implementation organisation belong in the story.
