The dry (2016)

Drought makes Kiewarra's farms and households vulnerable before Aaron Falk returns to examine an apparent murder-suicide. Harper ties the inquiry to water, heat and the long memory of a community that has already rejected him. An investigator cannot simply arrive as an anonymous professional here. Choose it for a tightly plotted case in which environmental pressure and the social cost of asking questions reinforce each other. The violence involves a family, including a child.
