Alfred Wegener

Continental drift gained a different kind of hearing after ocean-floor evidence helped establish plate tectonics in the 1960s. Wegener had died in 1930. The later theory gave moving continents a persuasive mechanism, rather than simply proving every detail of his original explanation correct.
