Born
Boole's nineteenth-century algebra of logic found an extraordinary new application when Claude Shannon connected it with switching circuits in the 1930s. Boole died in 1864, long before digital computers. The shift from a theory of reasoning to a practical language for circuit design is the connection that earns his place here.
