Jones brought a knowledgeable home cook's questions to editing Mastering the Art of French Cooking. Working with Julia Child and her co-authors Simone Beck and Louisette Bertholle, she helped make a demanding manuscript usable for its intended American reader. The authors supplied the culinary work; her contribution included attention to organisation, language and what a reader would need explained. Her notes offer a particularly good route into how an editor can clarify the structure of an ambitious project.
