Iannis Xenakis
Person
Music and architecture exchanged shapes in Xenakis's work. An engineer in Le Corbusier's office, he worked on buildings including the Philips Pavilion, while his orchestral Metastaseis explored masses of sound and changing instrumental lines. Graphs and curved surfaces provided a shared working language. Listen and look together: the reward is not a claim that a building is literally a score, but a concrete example of spatial thinking opening compositional possibilities.
