Creak on the Stairs (2020)

Elma returns to Akranes and joins Sævar and Hörður in investigating a woman's death near a lighthouse. Ægisdóttir gives the small group different relationships with the town and with one another, making ordinary conversation and accumulated local knowledge useful alongside formal enquiry. The interest lies in learning how the colleagues work together while older events surface. This is a slow-building, disturbing case involving childhood abuse. Victoria Cribb translates the selected 2020 English work.
