Person
Born
Curie used precise electrical measurements to compare the activity of radioactive materials and guide the search for new elements. The quartz-electrometer apparatus drew on work by Pierre and Jacques Curie. Measurement became a tool of discovery: unexpectedly strong activity in an ore could point towards something its known ingredients did not explain.
