In Country (1985)

A young woman tries to understand the Vietnam War through her dead father's absence and her veteran uncle's life. Bobbie Ann Mason makes the aftermath visible in an ordinary American town and across a generation that did not fight. It is the best route here into what families inherit without fully understanding.
