Before Sunrise (1995)
Movie
Released
Two travellers spend a night talking in Vienna, and the small negotiations of conversation become the action. Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy allow their characters to be curious, performative, earnest and occasionally a bit annoying, which is more persuasive than effortless soulmate dialogue. The record-shop listening booth makes bashfulness wonderfully visible. This older exception earns its place through attention to how attraction forms, though viewers who dislike talk-heavy films should start elsewhere.
