Donna's stand-up act is braver than her ability to handle her own life, which gives Jenny Slate plenty of room to be both funny and uncomfortable. An unplanned pregnancy and an abortion remain her decisions; a promising new man offers support without becoming the solution. Friends, work and money worries keep the romance grounded in an adult world. The jokes are frank and sometimes crude, but the kindness never depends on making the heroine perfectly composed.
