Sitcoms That Get Funnier on a Rewatch

Some comedies offer more than the comfort of knowing the next line. Once the plot is familiar, you can follow the person reacting behind the speaker, spot an early setup, or recognise a character making the same mistake in a newly ridiculous form. These are favourites for that second layer, with a strong leaning towards the ensemble comedies of the 1990s and 2000s and newer shows that reward the same kind of attention. Arrested Development and 30 Rock suit detail-hunting. Frasier is about the machinery of a scene, while Ghosts gains from knowing the people trapped in it. The selections are not uniformly gentle, and some older material has aged less comfortably than the performances. Rewatching should still be an active pleasure, not an obligation to defend every joke you once liked.
