Hugh Grant's Mr Reed welcomes two young missionaries with the manner of a slightly overenthusiastic conversationalist. Their professional obligation to engage gives his questions room to become demands. The early exchanges are the attraction here: friendly curiosity gradually reveals how much control the host believes he deserves. It is a useful choice if a polite debate becoming a struggle over the right to leave sounds properly unnerving.
