Julia Louis-Dreyfus and James Gandolfini find attraction in conversational ease, small jokes and the relief of being liked. Both characters already have children, former marriages and habits that will not magically disappear. The secret linking Eva's new friend to her new boyfriend is a conspicuous contrivance, but Nicole Holofcener uses it to examine how easily other people's judgements can poison your own pleasure. Come for the performances rather than a flawless premise.
