November (2017)
Movie
Released
In this Estonian village, people bargain, steal and enlist magical helpers as casually as they do farm work. The kratts, assembled from scraps, make folklore part of an economy of survival and greed. Rainer Sarnet's black-and-white images can be ravishing and ridiculous within the same scene. This is the choice for dark humour and doomed desire, rather than a steady progression of scares.
