Flowers and bright Swedish summer light offer no shelter in Ari Aster's story of a grieving visitor drawn towards a closed community. Watch how shared gestures and synchronised responses make belonging feel both consoling and coercive. Its violent festival is invented for the film, rather than an account of ordinary midsummer celebrations. Graphic imagery makes this a punishing starting point.

About Midsommar
Several friends travel to Sweden to study as anthropologists a summer festival that is held every ninety years in the remote hometown of one of them. What begins as a dream vacation in a place where the sun never sets, gradually turns into a dark nightmare as the mysterious inhabitants invite them to participate in their disturbing festive activities.
