Roz initially approaches raising an orphaned gosling as a task with instructions she has yet to acquire. Her repeated physical work, mistakes and changing priorities make care feel learned rather than magically supplied by instinct. That is the adult doorway into this colourful animal adventure. Its departures and separations carry particular force for parents and carers, while predator deaths and threatening action keep the island from becoming entirely cosy.

After a shipwreck, an intelligent robot called Roz is stranded on an uninhabited island. To survive the harsh environment, Roz bonds with the island's animals and cares for an orphaned baby goose.
