The Breadwinner (2017)

Parvana's effort to support her family under Taliban rule makes childhood resourcefulness look like labour forced on someone far too young. The stories she tells provide a second visual world without cancelling the danger of the first. Adults may find the gap between her competence and the protection she deserves especially painful. Arrest, war and violence make this a demanding watch despite its adventurous shape.
