Dog and Robot's companionship has the easy rhythm of meals, music and shared walks, which makes their separation feel like the loss of an entire daily language. The dialogue-free animation gives small changes in habit unusual importance. For adults, the difficult pleasure is considering whether a relationship can matter permanently without returning to its old form. There is warmth and visual comedy here, but also acute loneliness.
