Contact (1997)
Movie

Jodie Foster's astronomer brings the stubbornness of a scientist and the vulnerability of someone who has lost people to the same search. The alien signal sets institutions arguing, yet the film keeps returning to why an individual needs to know whether anyone is listening. Pick it for sincere wonder and an argument about evidence that leaves room for emotional need.
