Solaris (1972)
Movie
Released
Tarkovsky makes a space station feel like a place where grief has acquired a physical presence. A psychologist's encounter with someone from his past asks whether loving an image of a person means recognising them at all. The long earthly opening and unhurried conversations need patience. What they buy is time to sit with guilt, rather than a puzzle that promises to explain it away.
