A ship reaches San Diego with its crew dead, including a hand at the controls, while its T. rex is confined in the hold. A breakout followed by recontainment might explain it, but the film omits the chain of events and leaves awkward questions about access. The reward for accepting the gap is a gleefully outsized city rampage: suburban routines collide with a creature that dwarfs them, taking a different kind of comic suspense from the earlier trailer hanging over a cliff.
