Best Movies of 2024

A ranked selection of 2024's strongest features, comparing direction, writing, performance, sound and visual invention across languages, documentary, animation and live action. The year means first public release, including festival premieres, so a later regional cinema or streaming date does not move a film into 2025. The order is an editorial judgement of the completed films, with room for both intimate discoveries and ambitious popular work. Television and rereleases are excluded. Researched through 31 October 2026.
