Serenity (2019)

Ending spoilers. The island and its fishing captain exist inside a game made by a boy coping with his mother's abusive partner. The artificial routines do prepare a change of reality, so the twist is not clue-free. What strains is the move from adult noir to a child's programme as an explanation for nearly everything. Its ambition is interesting, but the late emotional story must compete with the rules the audience is suddenly asked to rebuild.
