Best Movies of 2023

A ranked selection of 2023's strongest feature films, weighing direction, writing, performance, sound and visual invention across countries and genres. First public release determines the year, including festival premieres; a later regional release does not move a film into 2024. Documentary and animation stand alongside live action, and major popular films compete with quieter discoveries. The order reflects an editorial view of the films themselves, not a count of awards or box-office receipts. Television and rereleases are excluded. Researched through 31 October 2026.
