Body Heat (1981)

Florida's heat supplies an excuse for almost every lapse in judgement before the characters start supplying their own. Fans, sweat and languid outdoor encounters make desire feel like weather that a mediocre lawyer is delighted to surrender to. Kathleen Turner's composure is a sharp counterweight to William Hurt's confidence. Much happens after dark, so this is a choice about oppressive climate rather than wall-to-wall sunshine. Its frank sexuality and humid pauses make the murder scheme feel like the extension of a very seductive bad decision.
