The Hot Spot (1990)
Movie
Released
A drifter arrives in a Texas town whose dusty streets and glaring days seem to have slowed everyone down without making anyone harmless. Dennis Hopper lets heat and a blues-rich soundtrack stretch the pauses until selling cars, looking and waiting all feel faintly predatory. Don Johnson's ease is part of the problem: he mistakes a sleepy surface for room to manoeuvre. Choose this for sweaty, unrushed pulp, with explicit sexual material and ugly exploitation beneath its languor.
