Hell or High Water (2016)

Bank robbery crosses with a modern western here, but the noir pressure comes from a system that makes criminal calculation look like the last available choice. The broad West Texas roads connect struggling towns, debt notices and banks rather than delivering freedom. Chris Pine's restraint and Ben Foster's volatility keep sympathy uncomfortable. Choose it for open-air crime with an economic memory, where the harsh light exposes a trap bigger than any one villain.
