They Look Like People (2016)

Two old friends try to reconnect while one becomes convinced that other people are changing into hostile beings. Whispers and tiny shifts in a face make companionship feel precarious, but ordinary awkwardness and affection keep the men more than pieces in a paranoia puzzle. A couple of startles feature; the central fear is what a frightened person might do with incomplete evidence. Its attention to trust gives the unease a humane counterweight.
