Best Movies of 2003

A personal cross-language ranking of films first publicly released in 2003, from Korean thrillers and Taiwanese slow cinema to naval adventure, animation and intimate American comedy. Festival screenings count, including Osama before its later catalogue commercial date. Finding Nemo and School of Rock offer inviting starts; Goodbye, Dragon Inn asks for patience and The Best of Youth for roughly six hours. Oldboy, Dogville and Capturing the Friedmans contain especially distressing violence or sexual material. The order weighs complete achievements while making their different demands clear.
