Speed (1994)
Movie
Released
The bus really was launched from a ramp, but the missing section of freeway was created with digital effects. That distinction makes the famous jump more interesting: a heavy practical vehicle supplies the movement, and post-production supplies the impossible gap. Jan de Bont keeps the passengers and the road's constraints close enough for the stunt to serve a shared crisis. It is unusually clean, cheerful suspense for a film built around threatened catastrophe.
