Suspiria (2018)
Movie
Released
Argento's 1977 film has the more immediate colour-and-music assault. Guadagnino's 2018 reinterpretation draws the dance school into Berlin's divided history and makes movement itself a frightening exchange of power. The rehearsal passages are the reason to favour it: choreography acquires moral and bodily consequences. This is a longer, heavier preference, with explicit nudity and graphic violence. It rewards curiosity about the institution and its histories more than a wish to repeat the original's rapid nightmare.
