Best Action Movies of All Time

A ranked route through action cinema for adults who want memorable filmmaking as well as escalating danger. I favour clear physical storytelling, inventive staging and characters whose choices make the spectacle matter. Martial arts, chases, westerns and science-fiction battles share the field; slower build-ups earn their place when the payoff justifies them. Start with Die Hard or Speed for an accessible evening, Police Story for stunt comedy, and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon for lyrical swordplay. The harsher entries identify their violence and other useful limits individually.
